Inspiring for all ages!

Being a Northern California expatriate and a bit of a sports nut, I’ve loved watching the rise of the Golden State Warriors over the past couple of years. One of the happiest parts of that rise (beside their beautifully selfless teamwork) has been the emergence of Stephen Curry as MVP and NBA star. This book illustrates why.

The book is written nicely, where a youngster would enjoy it as well as an adult. Not “dumbed down” or oversimplified, just stated in a manner suited for all audiences. Curry himself makes for a terrific subject, not just because of his incredible skill as a player, but his humility, faith, and devotion to family. (After all, daughter Riley stole the show in the post-championship interviews!) His collegiate career is covered well, as is his earlier time in the NBA. He’s not seen “in a bubble”, either, but in the context of his team and other NBA standouts. (I mention that after having read a number of sports bios with little reference to anyone other than the subject.)

I would absolutely recommend this book for basketball fans, Warriors fans, Steph Curry/Splash Brothers fans, and anyone else, age can-read-reasonably-well to adult, who enjoys a book about a respected and talented young man whose hard work, faith and family have brought him to fame and success. I did receive a discount on this item in return for a fair and honest review.

awesome story of faith and basketball

I loved how the story was written without ruining the events of his life for those who do not know. He got where he is today by hard work. Yes, his father was a great NBA player but, we do not see too many children of NBA players in the league. It tells of all the hard work where he went to school and how he came to be one of the best players in NBA and even part of how the game is changing. It was a quick and easy read on a amazing young athlete in Stephen Curry. The book goes through Curry's basketball life from when he was young/childhood, to his high school career to college and eventually on to the NBA.

This book is a really inspiring story about basketball player Stephen Curry. I learned so much about Stephen’s life and career from reading this book. As I progressed through the pages of this story I felt like I was right there with Stephen through every step of his basketball journey from high school to college to the NBA. I also appreciated how the author wrote about Stephen’s life in such a simple and straightforward manner without filling the book with boring facts and statistics. I expected this book to be simply about Stephen Curry’s career. What I discovered is that this is also a very inspirational story about an athlete who faced many challenges in his career and overcame every obstacle to become one of the greatest basketball players alive. I highly recommend this book for Stephen Curry fans of all ages.

A good introduction to the topic

This book is a good introduction and overview of formative evaluation for educational technologies. It discusses the role of evaluation in the development of an educational technology, presents five case studies of various technologies (somewhat dated), discusses methodology and measurements to use, and spends one chapter each on measuring user-friendliness, appeal, and learning. This book raises many pragmatic issues such as low budgets and when not to bother with formative evaluation (!). The book emphasizes the need for evaluation throughout the development cycle, and the case studies examine each part of the cycle in detail.
Many of the methods presented lack statistical rigor (small numbers of data points) and are not always quantitative measures. However, these are not always possible to achieve due to the pragmatic concerns mentioned in the book.
Although the examples cover dated technology (the reason for 4-stars), the methodology presented is still good and useful. While not a pure how-to textbook, it is an excellent guide and presents a good framework for the topic.

Not a particularly useful manual

I am currently a student in Doug Montgomery's Design of Engineering Experiments class (author of this and the textbook) and purchased this because I expected it to be useful in understanding how to approach the problems in the book. Montgomery also recommended that we purchase this for the course, since he doesn't assign us homework (for a grade).

This manual is not very useful because it doesn't do many discrete calculations, especially for the factorial and ANOVA sections. The data presented in the book problems is simply entered into Design Expert or JMP, and the program outputs are all that are given in the solutions manual. For a few sections, there are 'hand calculations' performed, but not for the sections that he really stresses in the course.

If you intend on learning DOE for a your career, then this may be useful because you can verify your software inputs/outputs with the expected results, but if you intend to use this to help you actually perform the calculations by hand (such as in the actual course) you will definitely be disappointed.

This isn't a complete solutions manual, but it covers all the key classes of problems. A great resource for the example-learner whose education is made inefficient with the "figure it out on your own" mentality. It was a great complement to my textbook and course.

Solution manual without any solutions

This solution manual has very few actual solutions in it. For example chapter 2 only has 7 solutions out of the 48 given in the book. Its worthless.
