Worth a shot!

I haven't coded in years and actually when I did (had to take a Java class in college), I sucked! Java and I have never gotten along, so I figured maybe I could learn OOP through picking up Swift because like everyone else, I have got a great app idea. While I was browsing Amazon's catalog, I wasn't sure which book to buy since there are so many and quite a few have good reviews. I previewed several books and discovered that this was right for me.

I picked this book for a few reasons:
1. This book covers new information for Swift 2. From my understanding, Apple announced updates to the Swift language a while ago and so if I'm going to spend time learning Swift, I want to make sure I'm learning the most up-to-date material.
2. It truly is for beginners! As soon as I received the book, I read through several chapters and really liked the explanation of the application development process as well as how it eases the user into installing/using xcode and Swift. I think it is important for beginner books to describe the context around coding otherwise newbies might get overwhelmed if they are thrown head first into code.
3. Not a flop. When I bought the book, there was only one review which happened to be a 3-star one. The rating wasn't at all related to the quality of the book or content but due to some issues with Amazon, so I took a leap of faith and made the purchase.

So far I'm satisfied with my purchase. I feel confident that if I keep reading the book, I'll gain the knowledge and confidence to start coding in Swift and make the apps I want. I will continue to update this review.

Well worthwhile for anyone wanting to learn swift and iOS development

As stated in the title, this book is intended to targeted at absolute beginners. It highlights fundamentals that will guide the target audience on their journey with Swift and iOS development. For example, right off the bat the authors cover how to think like a developer. The way these essential concepts are highlighted pave the way for the reader and will aid them through the rest of the book, as well as whatever follows with Swift and iOS. Throughout the book insights are integrated into the content that expand the readers perspective - for example, at the end of the section illustrating one of the samples is a helpful tidbit about accessing Xcode's documentation feature. Any student who takes the time to read this book will benefit and their time invested will pay off manifold. I heartily recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn Swift and iOS development!

This book is an excellent reference it allows you to work through the language without forcing you to use code you haven't learned about "just because" like some books also this book's syntax is quite up to date it falls short when explaining how to accept user data because this method has been revised to readLine() so just a helpful hint if that trips you up. Other than that small mistake A+++++ book. enjoy the read

This is by far the most comprehensive and well-documented study there is anywhere of methods and implications of acoustic and phonetic analysis of speech, gunshots, tape authentication, and other evaluations that form a part of evidence for law enforcement and courtroom judgments. Dr. Hollien is undoubtedly the most knowledgeable, scientifically rigorous, and experimentally-driven forensic phonetician in the USA. While other experts may merely design automatic algorithms for speech analyis, or conduct an occasional small study to show the merit of their own or colleague methods, Hollien has devoted his career to an ongoing comprehensive and well structured experimental study of speech analysis and interpretations. This book is packed with suitable theory, analysis of vectors or parameters that assist in acoustic decisions, reviews of extensive relevant literature, and practical descriptions of detailed methods used in forensic communications. While somewhat dated by its early publication, this review of the growing field of forensic phonetics is an essential resource for speech and acoustics practitioners, lawyers, judges, and those guiding projects in forensic sciences that require scientific and probative acoustic information. I have personally found this book one of the best I have used in defining and administering forensic science training and plans for ensuring that true science and experience is behind the work that is undertaken for legal purposes.

Easy to read, I appreciated the author's down-to-earth writing style in his presentation of CNC fundamentals and problem-solving. The book provides a systematic, step-by-step approach that makes it easier to understand more advanced service-solving techniques.

Top Service? I don't think so.

Reading this book is like listening to a Name-Dropper at a party. The author heard a few words about CNC machines and is able to repeat them but it is clear he has no fundamental knowledge of CNC machine control systems.

There is no useful information in this book beyond "Call the OEM". Whoops, I just gave away the ending.

Unbelievable Source of Strength for Career Growth!!

This book is simply incredible! I have read many self-help books over the years, and having been in the business world for all of those years, I have never seen both areas (self-help and career) integrated so well in one place. In "The Authentic Career" I was able to unlock how my career goals and personal needs could be aligned and fulfilled with the appropriate insights into my life. This book can really help individuals create the space to achieve this. Ms. Craddock's own experiences and using real examples of workplace issues were extremely helpful and enlightening. I could approach my job and career in a completely different light after reading and utilizing this book. The exercises were truly eye opening and I finally have found a process that makes sense for re-energizing and strategizing my career after many years. A great read for anyone who wants to find a new way to grow in their career and personal lives. Very helpful and inspirational!

Gary Clyde Hufbauer, Reginald Jones Senior Fellow at the Institute for International Economics since 1992, was formerly the Marcus Wallenberg Professor of International Finance Diplomacy at Georgetown University (1985–92), senior fellow at the Institute (1981–85), deputy director of the International Law Institute at Georgetown University (1979–81); deputy assistant secretary for international trade and investment policy of the US Treasury (1977–79); and director of the international tax staff at the Treasury (1974–76). He has written extensively on international trade, investment, and tax issues. He is coauthor of NAFTA Revisited: Achievements and Challenges (2005), Reforming the US Corporate Tax (2005), Awakening Monster: The Alien Tort Statute of 1789 (2003), The Benefits of Price Covergence (2002) and World Capital Markets (2001), and coeditor of The Ex-Im Bank in the 21st Century (2001), Unfinished Business: Telecommunications after the Uruguay Round (1997) and Flying High: Liberalizing Civil Aviation in the Asia Pacific (1996). He is author of Fundamental Tax Reform and Border Tax Adjustments (1996) and US Taxation of International Income (1992), and coauthor of Western Hemisphere Economic Integration (1994), Measuring the Costs of Protection in the United States (1994), NAFTA: An Assessment (rev. 1993), North American Free Trade (1992), Economic Sanctions Reconsidered (2d ed. 1990), Trade Policy for Troubled Industries (1986), and Subsidies in International Trade (1984).
Jeffrey J. Schott joined the Institute for International Economics in 1983 and is a senior fellow working on international trade policy and economic sanctions. During his tenure at the Institute, Schott was also a visiting lecturer at Princeton University (1994) and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University (1986–88). He was a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (1982–83) and an official of the US Treasury Department (1974–82) in international trade and energy policy. During the Tokyo Round of multilateral trade negotiations, he was a member of the US delegation that negotiated the GATT Subsidies Code. Since January 2003, he has been a member of the Trade and Environment Policy Advisory Committee of the US government. Schott is the author, coauthor, or editor of several books on trade, including NAFTA Revisited: Achievements and Challenges (2005), Free Trade Agreements: US Strategies and Priorities (2004), Prospects for Free Trade in the Americas (2001), Free Trade between Korea and the United States? About the Author
Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Her family owned a watch repair shop, which housed the "hiding place" where many Jewish people and Resistance workers hid for their lives. After her arrest and release from the Ravensbrück concentration camp due to a clerical error, Corrie was invited to share her experiences in more than sixty countries.
The Hiding Place was first released in 1971.

Elizabeth and John Sherrill have co-authored numerous bestsellers--classics such as The Hiding Place, The Cross and the Switchblade, and God's Smuggler--and have traveled the world researching and writing articles and books. Formerly senior editors and now roving editors for Guideposts magazine, John and Elizabeth co-founded Chosen Books, along with Leonard and Catherine Marshall LeSourd. John and Elizabeth have three grown children and live in Massachusetts.

A Jew's View--Thank you

I was absolutely absorbed by this book. I looked forward to every time I picked it up to read. I must start by saying that I am Jewish and absolutely do NOT share the religious views of Corrie Ten Boom. But, this story is so engrossing and moving that my religious views were irrelevant. This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family that literally laid their lives out to save Jews in Holland during WWII. These are people I wish I could hug. Don't be put off by the religious views expressed. Those views caused heroic people to show mercy and empathy in the most brutal period in recent history. The views were not preachy. I only wish that I could do something good for any person that would give respect for the wonderful people in this story.

Written for all time.

I saw Corrie ten Boom in San Diego Ca in 1976. She spoke of her times in prison , her father ,sister....The book changed my life. She and her whole family inspire me even today. The book is easy to read and tells a story that puts a seed into your soul and it grows and grows. You will read this book many times as it is food for the soul. God will bless you through Corries words of not just her survival but all the miracles that took her to freedom!

Hiding In The Shelter of His Wings

This book showed me that, yes we will have tribulation in our lives, and sometimes very overwhelming tribulation, but if we keep our eyes on God, the author and finisher of our faith, we can be victorious over-comers in ANY and ALL of our life's situations." Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" Romans 10:17. I loved it.
