An important collection of essays on epistemic justification

This is a collection of twelve essays written by Earl Conee and Richard Feldman (Four of the essays were co-authored). Only two of these essays are new. Five of the essays contain an afterword where Conee and Feldman often address some of the recent developments in the literature. These tended to be quite short. I had hoped that they might have more to say in response to Timothy Williamson's work, but they dedicate about a page to explaining why they thought their view survived largely intact in spite of what seemed to others to be serious criticisms of their views. I was also disappointed by how brief their discussion of pragmatic encroachment was. They dedicate about a page to Fantl and McGrath's criticism of evidentialism and say, basically, that they are not committed one way or another to any of the claims that Fantl and McGrath discuss. Even if this is so, it would have been nice if shared some of their thoughts on pragmatic encroachment.

Many of the essays contained in this collection are required reading if you're interested in debates about epistemic justification. Conee and Feldman defend an internalist view on which the justification of belief is determined by the evidence an individual has on hand. Their view counts as internalist because they insist that facts about your mental life determine whether there is adequate justification for your beliefs. It is hard to give this collection anything less than 4 stars because this book is indispensable if you're interested in epistemic justification.

I did find it difficult to determine precisely what precisely the evidentialist position was. At some places (e.g., pp. 232), Feldman speaks as if he thinks evidence consists of propositions. (True propositions only, or might false propositions constitute evidence?) At others, evidence consists of stored beliefs and various mental entities (pp. 70). I also did not find their defense of internalism terribly persuasive. They offer some examples in which they think it seems intuitive to say that something enhances the justification of some subject's belief when it makes an internal difference to that subject's mental life. The conclusion they try to establish is consistent, however, with the claim that external differences can also make a difference to the justification of a subject's belief. Since few externalists deny the relevance of some internal matters to the justification of belief, it's hard to see how these arguments support internalism about justification and not the weaker claim that some internal things are sometimes among the conditions that determine justificatory status.

A great little book one of at least three on biblical ...

A great little book. One of at least three on biblical holy places by Meinardus that centers on St. John of Patmos giving the reader a good sense of Revelation. Up until reading this book my opinion of Revelation has been mixed at least, but Meinardus puts a wonderful human, historical, and archeological face on the New Testament book reviled by Martin Luther and explained by Crossan (How to Read the Bible and still be a Christian) and Sumney (The Bible: and Introduction).

About the Author
Dr. Michael and Kathleen Yeager have served as pastors/apostles, missionaries, evangelist, broadcasters and authors for almost four decades. Up to this time they have authored eleven books. Their three son, daughter and daughter in law work with them in the ministry. Michael and Kathleen were married in 1978. Having help start over 27 churches. They flow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, teaching the word of God, with wonderful signs following and confirming God's word. In 1983 they began Jesus is Lord Ministries international. The same year the Lord spoke to Dr. Yeager to go on TV. From then to now they have been actively involved in broadcast media for the propagation of the gospel. They have owned numerous radio stations through the years. They have broadcasted by satellite (with their own C band up-link system) TV stations, including low power TV stations. In the mid-90s as pastor Mike was contemplating purchasing a local TV station, the Lord spoke to his heart and said the future was the Internet. At that time Jesus is Lord Ministries made a sizable investment into the broadcasting of the gospel by the Internet. For a season they were the largest broadcaster in new technology that carried well-known ministers, live streaming & archiving of their programs. In the mid-70s the Lord had spoken to Dr. Mike, revealing to him that he would be a part of providing a platform by which ministers could speak to the nations. Our broadcast now reaches around the world by all the latest and modern technology.

A Good and Relevant Book

This book was perfect for me, as I am on a path of faith. I really thought faith comes but one or two ways, but this book opened up my understanding with relevant and biblical revelations that totally changed my perspective. Some I was already doing, many others I was challenged to pay more close attention to. All in all, this is a good book not just theoretically to inform, but while reading it one can feel an explosion of faith within.

Very good and inspiring book on how to build your faith backed by scriptures from the Word of God.
The books has some minor formatting errors, but the actual, true content is excellt.

There is also a series of sermons on youtube by Michael Yeager that covers the same subject. I highly recommend watching that too.

An informative book.

Jacob Liberman, who has doctorates in both optometry and vision science, says that the people who live on Earth evolved to thrive under the light put forth by our sun. He says, therefore, that we potentially harm ourselves when we hide from sunlight. In Light: Medicine Of The Future: How We Can Use It To Heal Ourselves Now, he explains how to utilize the therapeutic benefits of light. Dr. Liberman says that "light is the basic component from which all life originates, develops, heals, and evolves." Everything that humans do is affected in some way by light. Light has been used for healing since the time of ancient Egypt. Modern scientists began recognizing the benefits of light therapy in the late 1700's. Although many people believe the ultraviolet (UV) light is harmful, Dr. Liberman maintains our bodies need at least a small amount of UV light in order to function properly. He cites studies which indicate that, due to all the ways in which we block sunlight from our lives, including wearing sunglasses designed to block out UV rays, "it is possible that we are unknowingly contributing to the increased incidence of blindness and eye disease in this country." Dr. Liberman does warn against looking at the sun directly, or exposing ourselves to it between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but emphasizes that light is a nutrient for the body. He says people need to be outside in natural light, without sunglasses or sun block, for a minimum of one hour a day. He warns that warm-white and cool-white fluorescents "should absolutely be avoided." People who cannot get outside regularly need to equip their work areas with full-spectrum light fixtures. Syntonics is the name given to light therapy, which involves utilizing specific colors for healing specific ailments. Dr. Liberman discusses its benefits in treating vision problems, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), cancer, and learning disabilities. He says that "as we continue to discover and understand the role that light plays in our lives, its use as both a therapeutic and preventive tool will become more evident." Because each individual is different, Light: Medicine of the Future doesn't get into prescribing particular colors for each potential illness. It is an invaluable reference, however, for all those interested in natural healing. Extensive appendices provide sources of supplies and a listing of light therapy practitioners.

Great Information for Those Interested in Healing With Color

I found this book very enlightening. A must read for anyone who is interesed in holistic healing, especially with light and color. In the book Dr. Liberman tells of healing with a series of 20 colors. It would be great if he revealed in the book what these colors are. Missing is a "how to" section that would enable people to put his discoveries into practice.

Powerful healing tools

This book is excellent and opens the reader to the possibilities of alternative practices through the use of color therapy for healing that are potent, powerful, and profound. I would also recommend "Light Years Ahead" for the first book, followed by this book. Dr. Liberman reveals a strength of vision and depth of experience in his new book which connects the reader to the many possibilities of very real healing with color.

Graham Redman was made a Mason in his old school Lodge in 1973, at the age of 24, and joined Emulation Lodge of Improvement the following year. He soon became a regular worker at its weekly demonstrations and earned his silver matchbox in June 1975, completing his record in 1978. He joined the precepting Committee in January 1980 and has been its senior member since 2002. He was born in Bedford in 1949 and has lived in the surrounding villages all his life. Educated at Bedford School and The Queen’s College, Oxford, he subsequently read for the Bar, being called by the Middle Temple in July 1974. After a period in pupillage and practice as a barrister, he worked as a lawyer in industry. In November 1987 he joined the staff of the Grand Secretary and has been Assistant Grand Secretary (and Assistant Grand Scribe E) since April 1988. His main interests, apart from Freemasonry, are reading and music. The Courage to Keep Going

I ran a half marathon last year and I loved running. But then, the polar vortex happened and I stopped. And gained 20 pounds. When I picked running back up I was totally frustrated with myself. I felt so out of shape and fat and slow. It was hard to keep getting out there knowing that I couldn't do anywhere near the distances or speeds I did before. But that's where this book comes in. I didn't need the advice on getting started so much as I needed the encouragement to keep going. This book is a quick read and something I will continue to reference during my quest to get back in shape.

so motivating!!

I read the book from start to finish during my workouts and I have to say, he motivated me. John Bingham just made me want to run outside and not be embarrassed that im a chubby girl running. I couldnt stop laughing when he said he'd be running and if someone familiar passed he'd pretend he was looking for something. That's been me for years. I've always been shut in about my abilities but he inspired me to race and to go outdoors instead of my lame treadmill.

I highly encourage this book to anyone looking for motivation in whatever program you're pursuing. It doesnt matter what you're age is or your shortcomings, the point is you're doing it.

He goes over all of the things you may need but I think if you want more in depth information and training plans read, "Running for Mortals."
