Absolutely Loved it!

Like other reviewers mentioned, this book drove much deeper into the characterizations of the hero and heroine. The Hero Reid has to be one of my all time favorite Heroes. It is extremely rare to seen a hero displayed with all his strengths and weaknesses - never mind his vulnerabilities - to such depth. When authors try to do this oftentimes the Hero comes off as weak or whiny. Not so with Reid. I wanted to grab hold of him, stroke his back and tell him everything was going to be alright. I fell in love with Reid! And Caitlyn was a fantastic heroine. Alternately strong and heartrendingly fragile. Kudo's to this author that created such fantastic - realistic characters.

The product description accurately provides a synopsis for this fast-paced thriller, but what it doesn't tell you is the story of how two people came together and slowly fell in love amidst so much tragedy and trauma. It was great to pick up a book where the HH's didn't fall into bed upon meeting and get into the all the drama and stereotypical dogma that many author's employ to create tension. Here the tension was caused by a serial killer and a potentially life threatening illness. What you get in this book is the natural progression of romance. From hesitant attraction to "I want to kiss this man/woman" to "I love you and I'm sticking by your side no matter what the future holds!" I absolutely loved this book and am eagerly awaiting the third in the series. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

Even better than her first book

I read the first book by this debut author just last month, and really enjoyed it. Therefore, when I got the chance to read this one I jumped at it. I was anticipating another good mystery along the lines of the first book in the series. What I got, however, was an even better book than Midnight Caller. In the time that has passed between the writing of her first book and this one, the author has certainly honed her craft. This second book of the series had a more exciting story line with a myriad of possibilities for the antagonist, leaving the plot twists harder to figure out. Once the antagonist was finally revealed, I found myself cheering that I had guessed correctly, a sure sign that I was involved in the story.

In addition, the characters seemed to have more personality making it even easier to get invested in their stories. The heroine, Caitlyn, had the perfect mixture of softness and backbone and her hero, Reid was the perfect strong but vulnerable leading man. There were also a number of well developed secondary characters who played interesting roles throughout the book. All in all, I had a really hard time putting this book down once I started to read it. I wanted the world to go away and just keep reading. I think I may even have snapped at a few of my family members when they interrupted my reading time.

If I really enjoyed the author's first book, I LOVED this one. I can't wait for the next installment from this author and hope that she writes many more books similar to her first two, and this one in particular.

Midnight Fear: Keep the Lights On

Midnight Fear by Leslie Tentler was such a thrill to read I'm sad to see it end. Caitlyn Cahill retreats to her horse ranch, Rambling Rose, to escape the devastation from turning in her brother to police. Joshua Cahill (dubbed the Capital Killer) is now incarcerated for killing numerous women or is he? Copycat murders start to happen in the Washington, DC area as the killer left chess pawns on his victims. The original agent from the case, Reid Novak, is back to investigate, and hopes to get back in the good graces of Caitlyn. Unbeknownst to him, the copycat killer is after Caitlyn and will do just about anything to eliminate her. Everyone becomes a suspect including Caitlyn's neighbors, the Treadwells (who were really creepy), and her hired hand, Manny Ruiz. The part where Caitlyn went to visit her brother in jail really freaked me out. That was the only way he was going to reveal where the bodies of his other victims were, and he would only reveal one each visit! The end was unexpected as I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. This was a fantastic mystery thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final word. Superb Biblical teaching in this book. For any Christian struggling with freedom from strongholds, I highly recommend this book or the CDs. After listening to the CDs, my life has forever changed. Hagin's teachings led me to understand that I am already free Luke 10:19, Colossians 1:13. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. I thank the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Edifying, Encouraging, Powerful Insights

The Believer's Authority will change the way the believer appraches prayer, life and God.

"The trouble is that we've preached a "cross" religion and we need to preach a "throne" religion"." (Page 16) There is power after redemption - a life worthy of our inheritance from the king and access to the throne of God for all who would believe.

Through an insightful examination of Ephesians, the believer comes into understanding of his "inheritance" from God and authority, through Christ, over a defeated enemy; his attacks, weapons,and strategies. Through access to the throne, the Christian believer has an inheritance in this world and the next, from the treasury of Christ Jesus. An inheritance of peace, joy, strength, health, power, provision, love and much more. Hagin encourages the believer to "enter in" and receive all the fullness of God.

There is power in the tongue - even life and death. And the spoken word from the mouth of the Christian is powerful and pursuasive. Power to bless, to heal, and to overcome the evil one in the name of Jesus.

Throughout this interesting and powerful book, I was reminded of the teachings of Smith Wigglesworth and felt agreement in my sprit, as well. Thank God for this timely book and the teachings of brother Hagin.

Very good book

This is an easy to read and understand book on the believers authority. I encourage every christian needs to read this book. This was my second time reading it. Been in a long battle and was led by the Holy Spirit to read it again. It has greatly reinforced me to continue to stand, pray, declare, and decree the promises of God.

Wonderful artist workspaces explored

[[VIDEOID:fd443c6037bbbea317190e4d05fba186]]I must admit there's more than a tinge of envy as I looked at the pictures of the art studios featured in the book. They look so beautiful and full of creativity waiting to happen.

Inside the Art Studios is an insightful book that brings you behind the scenes into the private studios of 37 artists. These artists are all located in USA and hence you'll pick up frequent mention of their preference for north light.

The content is grouped into several chapters each focusing on a specific function or purpose of the studios. There are home studios, portrait studios, education studios and the last chapter is about converting spaces into studios.

It's nice to see a good variety of artists and creators and their work spaces. You'll get to explore the studios of sculptors, painters and educators. The text talks not only about the studios but also the artists' work process. There are also information like the repairs they have to do, modifications to the house such as installing windows, lighting, heaters or how they arrange the furniture. You'll also read about how some places such as an industrial complex, barn, church or garages are converted into studios.

There are tips for specific type of artists. For example, the things you should look out for when setting up a studio for portrait drawings, like you'll need the space for the model to pose and rest. Or if you're going to conduct workshops, how much space and what type of arrangement might work. Of course your needs would be different, but there are plenty of insight to be learned from these artists as they talk about what it's like to work in their studios.

It's an insightful and interesting book. Recommended to artists and those who like exploring creative work spaces.

Not What I Expected

Some nice photography and page layout, but nothing really interesting about the artists. Most of them are portrait painters who seem to be painting in a fancy living room. It makes me wonder how these particular artists were selected. I would not have purchased it if I had thumbed through it at a book store.

As a working artist with my studio attached to my home; this book is a re-affirmation to develop my space back in 2005-6. The doubts and fears I had at that time were entrenched in thoughts of failure. These fears are long gone, and now I can take comfort is referring to this beautifully documented lesson in self motivation and risk taking. THANKS for sharing!!!

Really excellent book

I read this little book the first time almost 30 years ago upon the recommendation of a very well known chess book seller. While I didn't totally understand it all, I faithfully read it trying to absorb all I could.

I noticed it on my shelf recently and pondered whether it justified a re-read nearly 700 rating points later. After wrestling with the question ( I mistakingly believed it had nothing further to offer) for some time- I decided to give it my attention for a couple of weeks. I attempt to re-read every one of my many chess books periodically to see what I can soak up at each new level of understanding.

I have not been disappointed. While it is old, and in descriptive ( get over it now! It takes all of about ten minutes to figure out descriptive and there are still a large number of worthwhile books on the market written in DN) it contains ideas, principles, and general guidelines that guide even the openings of today.

Knosko-borovsky's writing is pretty much timeless in my opinion.

You are not going to find the dozen different variations currently considered playable in the Sicilian dragon Yugoslav attack on the 15th move here, but you are going to find chess truth that will guide you for many years to come no Matter what you play.

If you are ready to actually understand something rather than just memorize lists of moves (some of which will be outdated by the time you read this review) get this book!

As good as any

This book was originally written in 1935. It is in descriptive notation (P-K4), 141 pages plus 7 pages of solutions to the 36 questions scattered through it.

As its title suggests, it is about the general principles behind the different openings. The explanations are clear and easy to follow, and as good as any I've seen. It keeps things simple and doesn't list dozens of complex variations that would overwhelm a beginner. The fact that it is only $8 is icing on the cake. Recommended!

I find only minor shortcoming for this sort of book. Algebraic notation would be better these days, but we have only the laziness of the publisher to blame for that. Descriptive notation should not deter a potential reader - it is no harder to learn than learning how a knight moves! The modern and hypermodern lines do not get coverage proportional to their current popularity. When the book was written, Alekhine's defence was new on the scene, and it got 3 pages. The Sicilian got 4 pages.

Chess openings is a very difficult subject for beginners. When does the opening end and the middlegame start? How do I know that at the end of a given variation there are "about equal chances" or that "white has a slight advantage"? For general principles, this book is exactly what a beginner needs. For specific variations and their detailed analysis, things that only a serious chess player would worry about, one needs books that specialize in one opening or only one line (e.g. Sicilian Najdorf). To stay current, one needs the Chess Informant. The trouble with such books is that they get outdated very quickly. These days a better option is a computerized database, possibly with a subscription service to stay current. Computers have changed the way an advanced player studies openings. But the beginner still needs a book like this one. For a more modern introduction, with algebriac notation, I recommend Seirawan's book "Winning Chess Openings", ISBN 1857443497. It is thicker at 250 pages, but is easy to read.
No single book will convert you from a beginner to a master - only hard work can do that. However, each book you read will put a little more wind in your sail.

Amazing book for all chess players!

This book is one of the best books that have been published on chess openings. The main principle that is taught throughout the book is the concepts of each opening, like in the classic sicilian, control of the center is a strong concept which can change the whole game upside down if you don't have it. Weaknesses are explained for each opening and the author tells you how to exploit these weaknesses like never seen before! this book is for people who follow the strong foundations of chess, it's theory. The book is based off of old notation which can be difficult for lazy learners, but it is self explanatory if you try. This book may be based off some of the older theories that are the foundations of the present theories.
