A very good read

The book is so simple to understand, that a person who really wants to reset their life, can follow the simple instructions in the book with ease. But make sure before each time you read, whether 1 chapter or several at a time, pray first, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you on what you are reading. Best of all, it is backed up by the word of God, and who will doubt the Word? A good read not just once, but several times when you feel the need to "Reset".

Excellent Collection of Writings

J.I. Packer is one of the most well known and beloved authors whose works have influenced many Christians. I cut my theological teeth with his most well known work, Knowing God, and have since then loved finding authors who would give me a big picture of who God is. To this day Knowing God is still at the top of my list of most influential books that I've read. It is with this excitement that I received Revelations of the Cross.

Revelations of the Cross is a collection of previously published writings by Packer. These writings come from many different publications and this book brings them all together nicely. Because of the various sources and topics covered the book can feel a bit disjointed, but reading it as a devotional type book (one chapter at a time) proved to be a blessing to me. Some of these writings, like the chapter on Covenant Theology, come from introductions that Packer has written for other's books. In these chapters Packer delivers a nice overview of the topic, giving the reader a nice fly-by and perhaps intriguing us to dig deeper.

The chapter titled What Did the Cross Achieve? is probably the best short writing on penal substitutionary atonement ever written. I have read it before and am still blessed every time I read it. In a day when the Cross, specifically what Christ achieved, is often misunderstood it is a blessing to have such a concise defense of penal substitutionary atonement. The chapter titled: The Love of God: Universal and Particular continues this theme in talking about the nature and the extent of the atonement and how God's love is shown in His predestination of His elect for adoption.

On their own each of these 18 chapters provides the reader with a short study or introduction to a vast array of topics. All combined they prove to be a beneficial book for Christians to grow in their knowledge of God and His ways.

Great book, packed with important and relevant information.

I have an adult sibling with a personality disorder, and I can't tell you how much this book helped me. It's written straightforward, in every day words any of us can understand. From soup (the background information, such as factors that may cause the condition) to nuts (how to cope with someone you love who has a personality disorder), this book is full of what you need to successfully navigate the dangerous lands of the minds and behaviors of people with personalty disorders. I learned two things especially that I will be putting to work soon: that I can do more things on my own to learn about this disease and how to deal with; and two, that my brother really needs counseling and not just medication, which he really hasn't gotten so far.

I wasn't sure whether my co-worker was friendly or downright crazy, but this helped clear things up. Haha not sure if I want to share this book with her but it pretty much word for word describes how moody she is and how she can be happy one minute and on a rampage the next. If you or someone you know is like this, might be worth a read as you can have a better understanding of their situation as it might not technically be their fault.

Over this period of time, Devon meets a girl named Lexi. They read cosmo girl magazines, and told each other there closest secrets. Devon also told Lexi that she was popular and dated only the most popular guy at school, Jared Bently. These little lies didn't sound so bad, until Lexi moved to Devon's town and was standing in the front of Devon's class.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about middle school drama. There is a good lesson to be learned from reading this book. Little lies can bring on BIG problems.

The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney

Through an exciting journey of discovering self, preserving trust, and losing friends, Devon truly finds herself and who she aspires to be as a person. At the beginning of the book, she finds herself in the midst of a mess. Upon lying to a newly found summer friend, Devon is mortified when she finds out that her new friend, Lexi, who lived 80 miles away, has moved to her school. Devon realizes that she must now live her dream life, which in reality, is a life of lies. She somehow manages to fake her unrealistic life for a few weeks, only because Lexi befriends the A-list group on her first day. Lexi naturally assumes that Devon or "Devi" as she calls her, is already friends with this same group of people. After all, Devon did tell Lexi all about her best friends in this group throughout the summer. In an effort to keep Lexi from telling her lies to the entire school, Devon friends the A-list and simultaneously convinces Lexi that she and her fake boyfriend, Jared (the most popular guy in school) must maintain a secret relationship. Other lies soon spawn from this one as she then is forced into doing a school project with Jared's best friend, Luke. Luke comes over to Devon's house a few times to work on this project; however, in the mean time, develops strong feelings for Devon. After her parents find out that Luke had been over without her parent's permission, Devon soon finds herself grounded from all of her ties to communication. During this period, her secrets are revealed. Her friends no longer consider her a trustworthy friend, and worst of all, Luke is no longer interested in a girl who lies.

Though this book is quite dramatic and extravagant in some places, it is a wonderful lesson to many middle school age girls. The tone and rhythm of the book are written for the middle grades and caters to both their fears and insecurities. The message is very strong and to the point, and really encourages preteens to embrace honesty and form character. It also shows the strength of friendship and how quickly trust can be lost when not fostered carefully.

Small price to pay for BIG changes!

I liked Dave Willis "Marriage" page on Facebook & really enjoyed his inspirational posts. When he posted about his iVow book, I went and bought it. My marriage was in crisis for about the past 6 months after 6 years of some small issues & a one very big issue of not effectively communicating with my husband. My Husband & I were both guilty of getting off the path that God intends for all of us, so in this terrible time I turned to God, started reading & prayed harder than I ever had in my life. I started making small changes every day like those quoted in Dave's book. I started to feel better than ever emotionally & started having a more positive outlook toward everyone & everything. Then a miracle happened... I noticed little by little, that my husband's heart started to soften & he had started coming around to me & our family. We still have a long ways to go, but we are both now on the same page & starting Christian guidance counseling. We are now both committed to having a stronger & healthier marriage. I am living proof that God can & does change marriage, even in the most dire situations... Thank you Dave Willis for your great ideas & giving us hope!!! I believe you have been called to do Gods work here on Earth & bringing people back to the way God intended marriage to be. God Bless!

If you want your passion to return to your marriage. read this book.

This book is incredible. I read it aloud each morning to my husband and then we would discuss what we heard. We are like most married couples, searching for things to communicate about, needing guidance on a deeper relationship and a longing to have a marriage that is satisfying and passionate. I encourage all married couples to read this book together. We will read it again together in the future, for I know we will need to be renewed again.

The ideas in this book are based on strong biblical principles, applied so insightfully to marriage in today's world. My husband and I are reading a chapter together each day and discussing the questions at the end, and we have been married for 36 years!

Saving money using common sense

This is easy to read book with a lot of common sense ideas that you may not have thought of. It's always better to save a dollar than make a dollar because you don't have to pay taxes on money you save. Just using one idea may be able save you many times the cost of the book.
