Another excellent read of Susan's

I especially enjoy Susan Wiggs and wish she would get on the writing track again, as I'm missing her new books. However, recently I have had to find her more obsure books.

Occasionally, there is a diamond in the rough.. Ok this is so this is not too rough .. it is a polished mystery romance and an excellent read with interesting characters and intrigue. Sorry I could not agree with the person that said it had too much mystery?? Hummm... I guess that what makes us all different. I think you would like it if you have enjoyed other somewhat complex novels of Susan's. I was surprised to find it and delighted to enjoy it so much! Good luck finding a copy.

Totally written in Spanish, which can be nice, but sometimes you just need a bit of explanation in English to fully comprehend. Seems like it was not written for adults. Lessons were a bit juvenile.

Spanish for the English speaker

I bought this book as a supplement to the basic Spanish lessons I was taking. This is a workbook which follows a pattern of lessons (text + pictures) followed immediately by a quiz. Also has an audio CD that you have to listen to (native Spaniards speaking) and answer questions. Quite useful. Grammar and sentence construct lessons are aligned to help the English language expert.

I ordered this into India which is not such a good idea as the shipment is in a flimsy pack. Besides taking 40 days, the book was wet when it arrived. A plastic wrap would have done nicely. Be warned.
The contents are still worth every cent. I have since ordered Book-2 :-)

Reeves fans must read

Larry Jordan paints a complex portrait of an extremely talented and gifted, yet flawed man in Jim Reeves His Untold Story. In a book I've waited the better part of my life for, Jordan has given Reeves fans a complete picture showing Reeves as the Gentleman for which he earned the nickname, as the great musical talent he was, and as an all-too-human man hampered by self doubt, a sometimes hot temper, and an inability to remain faithful to one woman. Jordan's book shows us the life that Gentleman Jim lived including the many doubts and insecurities that plagued him despite the success and adoration that came his way. While some might think that exposing the reader to Reeves' human flaws would damage the place he has held in his many fans' hearts, I find that seeing him as the human being he was only enhances my appreciation of the incredible musical legacy he created. Too many times we only see the image created by marketing specialists and the media leading us to place these stars on a pedestal and when their human failings become evident it devastates the spotless image we have created in their mind. Jordan shows us that stardom and the hectic pace required of a country star - constant tours, traveling and performing that took its toll on Reeves and just like many other celebrities. How Reeves dealt with the loneliness, fatigue, and doubt, brought on by the demands of life as a country music star, while not always admirable, can be understood when one looks at the big picture. Reeves was like any one of us with many good traits and some not so admirable. Jordan leaves us with a portrait of a man with an incredible talent who did his best to treat his family, friends, and fans with kindness and respect, while not always succeeding.

The book also provides the reader with the most complete account to date of the events leading up to the plane crash in 1964 that silenced it and the many puzzling circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Jordan also details the heartbreaking account of Reeves' widow, Mary's, later years and the injustice done to Gentleman Jim's legacy by those trying to make a fast buck off of the rights to his recording royalties and memorabilia.

While Jim Reeves His Untold Story shows us the human side of the "greatest voice in county music", it also gives the reader the stories behind many of Reeves' recordings and places the songs into the context of what was happening at the time in Reeves' life. This factor alone mandates a second reading of the book in tandem with a re-exploration of these many beautiful songs, not only to listen again to that golden baritone, but to hear the lyrics in a new light with new meaning. I know that on my first reading, while my desire to read the book kept me reading, the level of detail and a sense of dread at reaching the end, which meant not only the end of the book, but Reeves' death checked my speed at completing the book. Jordan is to be commended on the time and the love he put into this biography. Anyone who loves Gentleman Jim and his music must read this book. He or she will come away with a greater appreciation of the man and his music.

I have read many biographies on singers and own many and I found this the best one I have read! It was a book I could not put down. My library had it and I enjoyed it so much, I bought a copy for my own library at home.
I liked the way the author had the pictures in with the narrative. I felt like I was there living that time period. This author showed he had done a lot of research and I learned a lot about Jim Reeves. I enjoyed this book so much and have told my friends to read this book. A must read for fans of Jim Reeves.

The Best Book Ever Written About Jim Reeves

Simply put, I was blown away with this book. Having published more than 20+ books myself, including biographies of Melvin Belli, Thomas Merton, Jonathan Pollard, Mike Tyson and former Hitler Youth leader Ursula Martens as well as "The Poison Patriarch" about the JFK assassination, I am most impressed with not only the incredible amount of research done about Mr. Reeves' life but also how the author permits a reader like me to feel as if he is experiencing the famous singer's defining moments as they happen. Best of all, the author debunks many of the myths surrounding Mr. Reeves' life and perhaps as important, his unfortunate death. We therefore get a clear picture based on fact, not fiction, including how Mr. Reeves rose from being an unknown to the top of his profession as a singer who thrilled listeners around the world with his magical stories. The author is certainly correct that Mr. Reeves was "velvet voiced" and this important biography is a true keepsake for anyone who loved his music as I do.

Wonderful book...makes the movie even better

The mummy movie starring Brendan Fraser is one of my favs so I was curious when I saw this book. Could it compare to the movie?
It didn't compare to the movie...it made it way better!

The characters came alive on the page and the love story between Evelyn and Rick (which seemed to appear at the end of the movie) grew as the book went on. It brought so much more to the movie and made me fall in love with Rick all over again

For all of you who watched the movie for the action it is so much better on the page. The author really brought the scenes to life!

A Very Good Book, Based On My Favorite Film

This novel, by Max Allan Collins (Saving Private Ryannovelazation), is based on the hit Universal Pictures film "TheMummy", starring Brendan Fraser - which happens to be my favorite film. After seeing the film back in May '99, right away I did a few things. Such as buying the other versions (from 1932 and 1959). Then in September I bought it on video (in widescreen of corse!) and recentaly purchesed the soundtrack, which was exellent! Beautiful, beautiful music by Jerry Goldsmith. My next chore was to go out and buy the book. I did, and sat down and read it in a few days - and I'll say, it was worth the money! It wasn't THE movie however (in my review for the movie, I gave it 5 stars), which only means that the book was a little boring in some parts, and details the action scenes too much. I'll say this though, it does entertainingly explain most of the major characters origins, providing a wonderful back story to keep in mind while watching the film. There are a few changes made in the novel, such as some details in the ancient egypt prolouge that resemble the original Karloff "Mummy", and during the desert trek to Hamunaptura, the crew stumbles upon a desert oasis - some extra diologue is injected into that; but I won't detail it all to much, so everyone can enjoy it better when they read it for the first time. Overall, it is a good adaptation of an even better movie, with some good metephores, in depth character development and a very good desciption of the "stage one" mummy. Read this book if you enjoyed the movie, you won't regrete it! END

While the Princeps wear a face of impartiality and civility, what boils beneath the surface is a storm of selfishness, greed, lust and perversion. Danger lurks in every corner and it soon becomes clear that someone is determined to ensure that Gabi will never get the chance of a fair hearing.

This book is almost a 5. It continues much the same way the other books have been. I was hesitant with this book because too much vampire council politics can ruin a book.

The story moves well. Not too fast but a lot gets covered in these pages. I thought the character growth was very good in this book. Not only more capable but emotional growth too. The romance between Gabi and Julius was just enough to make the story better. It added to the story instead of distracting from the big picture.

The reason I didn't rate this a 5 was for one thing. Caspian gets introduced in this book. The author tried to justify his presence by making him useful in important situations. It never felt right to me. The way he was introduced and even the suspicions don't justify him being around. There is no reason he shouldn't have been killed immediately.

Now this isn't a spoiler because it doesn't happen. This is my own guess at what could happen. It seems the author is setting up a future story where Caspian gets some sort of hold on Gabi. Thereby taking control of the city's werewolves as well. The Gabi and Julius' love will have to prevail. I hope that's not a planned book because it's just too obvious for my tastes. A bit too cheesy. That would be a book I would skip. Or just skip to the final 30% and skip Gabi being mind controlled and screwing over all her friends.

Ms. Hannaford has me hooked. I love all three books in the series. This latest installment is by far, the best!!! I really enjoyed following Gabi and Julius. Gabi is strong, smart and caring and Julius is sexy as ever. He's definitely the best boyfriend material! The story line was exciting and it felt like a heart stopping roller-coaster of action and emotions. Once I picked up the book, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Can't wait for the next one to come out!

Excellent book! Author kept all 3 books very exciting. Fast paced and action packed. I totally agree with one of the reviews "There were enough interactions between HelCat and Julius that would satisfy your heart since some urban fantasy romance tend to leave out the relationship aspect and usually the heroine dominates the action scenes most of the time."
Anxiously waiting for the next book.

Probably the best book ever written for men who have erect penis length under 5 inches. Any erect penis under 5 inches is considered small not to be confused with a micro penis (under 2.75 inches erect length). This book is not for men who THINK they are small but the 2% of men with smaller than average penises and of course the curious. As a member of this rare club I have not experienced the kind of rejection or ridicule described in the book I do agree that it does present both physical and psychological challenges. Rarely written about from a first person perspective. Covers the futility of penile enhancement products and exercises that do little or nothing to enhance a small penis size. Surgery can result in a shortened and or deformed penis costing thousands more to correct the damage done! Talks about depression and self acceptance. Some pseudo science regarding a female body size and vagina size but otherwise a factual book.
